Dental anxiety, or fear of the dentist, is one of the most common reasons for poor oral health among adults today. Dr. Kush Patel and Dr. Krutav Patel work one on one with patients who suffer with dental anxiety. They seek to help them identify the root cause of their fears and how best to address them during treatment. For many patients, taking the time to discuss personal concerns and past dental experiences can alleviate stress and enable them to comfortably restore their oral health.
Drs. Patel and their staff take the time to fully explain each step in a dental procedure to help anxious patients feel confident while sitting in the dentist chair. Listening to music or being distracted by a movie can also help some patients to feel comfortable during their dental care. We make every effort to help patients feel “at home” in our dentist office!
Drs. Patel understand that overcoming dental anxiety is not always possible and they offer sedation options for patients who prefer to feel completely calm and relaxed with little or no memory of their procedure afterwards.
Sedation Dentistry in Fullerton, CA
Drs. Patel offer sedation dentistry in our Fullerton, CA dentist office. Sedation can enable patients to feel completely relaxed and comfortable while receiving the dentistry they need for a healthy smile. In many cases, patients can undergo several dental procedures during one visit through the use of sedation. This is especially effective when addressing complex dental problems that are the result of a lack of dental care.
Sedation options include:
- Oral sedation: administered in pill form, oral sedation allows patients to be responsive and in control of their bodily functions while completely relaxed. Oral sedation takes time to both take effect and wear off. Patients will need to arrange for transportation after their treatment.
- Nitrous oxide: also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is administered through a small cannula placed over the nose. The odorless gas is affective almost immediately after patients begin breathing it in and wears off just as quickly. Patients are able to drive themselves home after treatment.
- IV Sedation: Dr. Krutav Patel has completed a residency program in IV sedation. This type of sedation is delivered through a tiny IV needle and provides the “deepest” form of relaxation for patients with anxiety.
